Abilities/Powers:
Basic Magecraft: As Waver is only a third generation, his magic circuit and crest are considered the lowest level as far as quality and abilities are concerned. Due to this, he lacks the prerequisites to practice mage craft at the level of his peers. He would be little good in a confrontation against most other mages, if on his own. They would, without a doubt, easily kill him if he couldn’t figure out a clever way out of a situation. The list of what he is known best for is as follows.
Though extremely plain as far as his abilities and power levels go, Waver has a knack for leyline analysis and adjustment. Locating and utilizing them to his advantage when necessary. He displays this when summoning Rider, and as well as knowing the best way for them to replenish his mana supply naturally would be by remaining near that leyline.
He is also capable of using familiars to connect with their consciousness and use their eyes to spy from afar. Waver would also have a working knowledge of how to set up a basic bounded field to ward a space for a little extra security when he feels a situation calls for it. For offensive magics, he doesn’t display any particular knack for them in his early years (Zero era). Later in life, he does, however, exhibit the ability to fire magic bullets from his hand. Not entirely unlike a cursed shot, but much weaker by comparison. It is reasonably that down the line he will learn to do this either in game or through canon update, but for now I’m going to say he cannot use it or much of the other things he’d seen to be capable of in his ‘Casefiles/Adventures’ years.
He is notably capable of low-grade hypnotic suggestion, as seen in the Fate/Zero series where he makes an old Australian couple in Japan believe he’s their grandson from abroad while he needs a place to stay during the grail war. However, due to his low skills, it must be re-enforced frequently as some information missing could cause it to fail. Waver feels like he’s something of a failure for not being able to make the spell last. ((NOTE: This will have a special permissions space in my permissions. He doesn’t really seem to use this much, but I am including it since it is something he knows.))
He also is capable of using basic alchemy and often carries solutions in vials or capsules in his pockets for easy access while investigating something. He uses them most often to find trace elements of mage craft in water or blood that might present a clue to solving something, or small capsules to create some mage light to illuminate dark spaces rather than having to conjure light with a spell.
Observational Skills: He possesses a very keen eye and a mind for interpreting and picking apart the finer points of something to unravel its mystery. This means by observing how other mages work as they display their own specialized mage-craft, he essentially figures out how it works rather quickly. This is seen as a bad thing and described by his teacher Kayneth (and his future student Luvia) that all he does by understanding the mystery behind someone’s mage-craft is destroying it. Because by understanding it so completely, he could make it less potent, especially if he spread such knowledge around to the point that it is well understood by a large amount of people.
That said, there are benefits to this. He could assist in changing the mages’ thinking, and help to fine-tune their methods or make improvements. He could also, of course, break the method down to its basics and rebuild it with his own ideas and improvements and find new alternative uses for it.
((NOTE: I have included this in his special permissions post, as I do not intend to have him figure out/talk about how someone else’s magic/abilities might work without their permission and THEIR interpretation of how it works.))
Inventory:
Clothes on his back and a few small, assorted items in his pockets including: a notepad, pen, some alchemic capsules he made to use as flares in dark spaces, vials of alchemic compounds he may have kept on hand after summoning Rider, a pocket knife probably.
What could your character stand to learn:
Waver’s got a hell of a chip on his shoulder thanks to the way his academic career has gone so far, and a seemingly inflated ego that hides an inferiority complex that only comes to light when someone tries to compliment or encourage a clever decision or method used to make progress with a problem.
He also has a really hard time opening up to people or asking for help or to explain things he might want to know more about in general. Perhaps born of Kayneth’s tendency to act condescendingly in class, he will often take the hard road when it comes to learning. Instead of asking people who would absolutely have information he’d like to know (such as more about Iskandar’s history) he will go to find the information on his own and often hide that he’s doing it.
Waver tends to react to positive attention and encouragement almost negatively, quick to point out that other mages could do far greater things than his simple methods. In general, he doesn’t seem to know how to express his own feelings to the people around him, and is extremely reactive to various kinds of attention. He is very easily riled up and flustered, and it can confuse people around him… he really needs to relax and lighten up.
So the teen could also stand to learn to loosen up a little. He's far too serious and focused on nothing but his studies and trying to improve and prove himself to the world around him. He doesn’t seem to take time to pursue hobbies or enjoy himself much, to the point that even Rider tries to impart upon him that people should enjoy the things life has to offer.
Special Item: An ancient scrap of fabric that Waver brought with him to Fuyuki, it would be kept in a small box. This item is the relic he used to summon Rider (Iskandar) to enter the grail war. He will not have use of it here, but it is special to him for obvious reasons.
Guardian Role: Yeah, sure! He could use the experience given his future-self will be a teacher :D
The Manor: The library is already present, so he should be happy for now. Will bring ideas to the table if I think of them at a later date!
